Sentineo collaborates with IVEX on Tesla screen monitoring for enhancing driving experience and safety
To enhance data capture during vehicle driving tests, IVEX partnered with Sentineo to enable live recording of a Tesla car display. Sentineo’s electronics experts disassembled the electronics of the screen, analyzed the control board, and safely extracted the necessary digital video signals. These derived HDMI signals were routed to a secondary screen in the second row and the autonomous driving monitoring systems located in the trunk. This allows IVEX to pioneer testing and validation of advanced driver assistance and autonomous driving systems (ADAS/AD), utilizing live on-screen data to further refine its solutions for the global automotive market.
Capturing screen display as real-time input data
IVEX’s solutions and services empower automotive manufacturers to collect more relevant data and gain deeper insights from vehicle driving tests. A key focus for IVEX is accurately capturing everything displayed on the dashboard’s live screen as real-time input data. Initial attempts to film a Tesla car display proved inadequate, as they suffered from reflections and light overexposure.
To overcome this, IVEX partnered with Sentineo to capture the live screen directly by tapping into the necessary signals from the Tesla dashboard and streaming the data in real time. This integration allows IVEX to use live screen displays as valuable inputs for better monitoring test vehicles. Ultimately, the purpose is to advance driver assistance systems and autonomous driving technologies.
Accessing digital dashboard signals to extract HDMI
With extensive electronics expertise and the necessary caution, the specialists at Sentineo got to work. They opened the casing of the Tesla user screen to gain access to the control board of the display. They analyzed the board and managed to reassemble a series of digital signals into a high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) and stream the live display information to an additional display on the second seat row and the monitoring system.
Besides capturing the live screen display, Sentineo engineers also optimized the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of the electrical and electronic equipment of the autonomous driving systems in the trunk of IVEX’s Tesla. Their efforts permit the systems of IVEX to operate as intended in the presence of other electrical and electronic equipment, without adversely interfering with the other equipment.
Opening many new ADAS/AD possibilities for IVEX
Piet Callemeyn, owner of Sentineo, says that it requires knowledge and caution to intervene in existing electronic systems, in this case a Tesla car. “Ensuring safety and avoiding damage are always our top priorities.
